Expression of FAP is correlated with clinical prognosis in ovarian cancer patients

چکیده
Background: Ovarian cancer is the second most common cancer in women and the leading cause of cancer-related death from gynecological cancer. Fibroblast activation protein (FAP) is best known for its presence in stromal cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs). The aim of this study was to investigate the expression of FAP in ovarian cancer and its significance in clinical prognosis. Material and methods: The expression of FAP in 102 formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded ovarian cancer tissues and the adjacent tissues were examined by immunohistochemistry (IHC). The results were semi-quantitatively scored and analyzed by chi-square test. The overall survival time (OS) were collected by follow-up and analyzed by Kaplan-Meier analysis. Results: The expression level of FAP in ovarian cancer were higher than that in the adjacent tissues (P<0.05). FAP expression was shown to be correlated with lymph node metastasis (P<0.05), latent distant metastasis status (P<0.05) and FIGO histology grade (P<0.05). In addition, we found that patients with a higher expression of FAP tended to have much shorter survival time than patients with lower FAP expression. Conclusion: High FAP expression is associated with poor prognosis in ovarian cancer and may serve as a novel prognostic marker in ovarian cancer.

Prognostic Values of Estrogen and Progesterone Expression Receptors in Ovarian Papillary Serous Carcinoma
Background and Objectives: Presence of steroid hormone receptors (estrogen and progesterone) in the tumor tissues of various organs correlates with response to therapy and prognosis. Since their role in ovarian cancer is still controversial, in this study we investigated the expression and prognostic value of the estrogen receptor (ER) and progesterone receptors (PR) in ovarian papillary ser...
متن کاملEndothelin-1 expression in prostate needle biopsy specimens correlated with aggressiveness of prostatic cancer
Background & Objective: As the prostate adenocarcinoma is one of the most common malignant tumors in males, looking for a marker to effectively predict aggressiveness and metastatic potential in an apparently localized cancer in initial needle biopsy specimens can help the clinicians to make more appropriate decision for treatment, planning, and choosing appropriate ta...
متن کاملThe Role of Long Non-Coding RNAs in Ovarian Cancer
Background: Ovarian cancer is the most fatal tumor of female's reproductive system, and several genetics and environmental factors are involved in its development. Various studies have already identified suitable biomarkers to facilitate the early detection, prognosis evaluation, and the assessment of treatment response. However, the aim of this review was to investigate the role of long non-co...

Background: Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma (ESCC) is the seventh most common and lethal malignancy worldwide with a high incidence in Iran. Esophageal cancer has a poor prognosis and low 5-years survival rate. Despite several studies on esophageal cancer, its underlying mechanism remains unclear. Therefore, it is significant to analyze the molecular factors involved in disease for introduci...

Background: Given that ovarian cancer symptoms are nonspecific and that appropriate surgical staging and pathological grading are important for the best treatment and prognosis of patients, this study aimed to determine the correlation of preoperative serum levels of CA125 and He4 with staging and grading. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study recruited 29 patients with epithelial...
